Role Description:
The Legal Counsel role is a newly created opportunity in our Legal team, based at our Perth Central Park office. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, timely, and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. Reporting to the Managing Counsel & Deputy Company Secretary, the Legal Counsel will work closely with stakeholders across the business to support strategic initiatives, manage legal risk, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
With a strong focus on contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance, this role is ideal for a proactive legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will bring sound judgement, excellent drafting and analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in the delivery of legal services.
Job responsibilities:
- Provide timely, high-quality legal advice on a wide range of commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters to support business decision-making and risk management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts and legal documents, ensuring alignment with Synergy’s strategic and operational objectives.
- Advise on regulatory compliance and corporate governance, contributing to the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures.
- Engage and manage external legal counsel, including preparing instructions, reviewing advice, and ensuring alignment with budget and commercial expectations.
- Support strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives, including the development of legal precedents, training delivery, and integration of legal advice into business processes.
What you will bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law from a common law jurisdiction, along with admission to practice in Western Australia and a current practising certificate, with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in commercial and contract law.
- Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice on complex legal and regulatory matters.
- Proven experience managing commercial contracts and third-party arrangements, including the ability to identify and mitigate legal risks.
- A collaborative and customer-focused mindset, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- A proactive and solutions-oriented approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and a strong sense of professional integrity.
