Role Description:

 

The Media & External Affairs Advisor is an exciting 12-month Max Term Contract opportunity in our Brand, Marketing and Communications team based at our Perth Central Park office. This role is instrumental in shaping and protecting Synergy’s corporate reputation through strategic media engagement, compelling content creation, and effective issues management.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Media and External Affairs, the Media & External Affairs Advisor will work across traditional and digital media platforms to proactively identify media opportunities, manage Synergy’s owned external channels, and support media events and crisis communications. The role requires a strong news sense, excellent writing skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, media representatives, and government counterparts.

 

This is a dynamic opportunity for a communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings a proactive mindset, and is passionate about purpose-driven storytelling and reputation management.

Job responsibilities:

 

  • Proactively identify, pitch, and develop media opportunities to enhance Synergy’s corporate reputation across traditional and digital platforms.
  • Create and manage content for Synergy’s owned external channels, including the corporate website, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Provide strategic media advice to internal stakeholders, including senior leaders and the Minister for Decarbonisation and Energy’s office when required.
  • Coordinate and manage media events, including logistics, stakeholder engagement, and on-site support.
  • Support issues management and crisis communications, including participation in Synergy’s Crisis Communications Team and after-hours media response roster.

What you will bring:

 

  • A tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, marketing, media management or a related discipline, or significant experience delivering communication programs in large service-based organisations.
  • 5+ years’ experience in media, journalism, PR or corporate communications, with a strong understanding of the WA and national media landscape.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content across multiple formats and channels.
  • A proactive mindset, strong news sense, and sound judgement in managing key issues and media opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and confidently interact with senior leaders and external media representatives.
