Role Description:

The Senior OT Engineer is an exciting opportunity in our DER & OT Systems team based at our Perth Central Park office. This role is central to supporting and modernising Synergy’s SCADA systems across Future Energy and Thermal Generation, with a strong emphasis on safety, cybersecurity, and system reliability.

As a technical leader within the OT Systems team, the Senior OT Engineer will deliver engineering capabilities across both project and BAU functions. The role involves harmonising OT standards, guiding technology selection, and ensuring systems are designed in line with IEC 62443. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners such as AEMO and Western Power to ensure SCADA systems are secure, supportable, and aligned with strategic goals.

Ideal candidates will bring experience in SCADA system design (particularly Ignition SCADA), power systems, and industrial communication protocols. Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills are essential, along with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement in a fast-evolving energy landscape.

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead SCADA system integration and modernisation efforts across Future Energy and Thermal Generation, ensuring safe, cyber-secure, and supportable implementations.
  • Provide engineering guidance and subject matter expertise for OT systems, including hardware, applications, and converging technologies, with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Harmonise OT technical standards and procedures, including preferred hardware, protocols, system architectures, and alarm management, while coordinating with vendors and third parties.
  • Design and coordinate support processes for critical OT systems to meet 24/7 service level agreements (SLAs) for response, remediation, and resolution.
  • Advise on the selection and integration of new technologies within the OT domain, ensuring alignment with IEC 62443 and enabling future innovation.

What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline, with strong experience in SCADA system design and integration.
  • Hands-on expertise with Ignition SCADA and industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, OPC-UA, DNP3, and MODBUS.
  • Knowledge of power systems and utilities, with a solid understanding of field instrumentation, PLCs, and telemetry equipment.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, particularly IEC 62443, and a commitment to safe, secure OT system design.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to deliver strategic outcomes.
