Role Description:
The Lead Power Generation Engineer is a newly created opportunity based at our Cockburn Power Station Site.
As the Lead Power Generation Engineer, you will take ownership of the engineering leadership and provide strategic direction to operations and maintenance so engineering matters are addressed in a consistent, timely, safe, and structured manner.
This pivotal role requires an experienced engineering professional to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists, ensuring plant reliability, operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Job responsibilities:
- Provide technical supervision and mentorship to a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Lead maintenance and reliability engineering activities across power generation units consisting of heavy-duty frame gas turbines
- Coordinate root cause failure analysis, corrective actions, and technical reporting. Communicate findings to stakeholders including higher management, regulatory authorities and insurers
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting asset availability, lifecycle optimisation, and cost-efficiency and develop and execute maintenance strategies including predictive, preventative, and condition-based methods
- Lead engagement with OEMs, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and effective operations and contribute to Asset Management Plans, and develop associated capital upgrades project plans and investment strategies
- Develop training and development plans for the engineering team with focus on career progress pathways
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Engineering or related disciplines eligible for professional membership of Engineers Australia
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in power generation or in the energy and resources industry, with 3 years in a leadership or senior engineering role
- Strong understanding of power station systems, including auxiliaries, control systems, and balance of plant equipment
- Plant engineering experience with demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in Type B gas appliances, risk-based inspections, pressure equipment management, hazardous areas and high voltage electrical systems
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists and excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
