Role Description:

The DER Platform Operator is an exciting opportunity in our DER Operations team based at our Perth Central Park office. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering Synergy’s strategic ambition to aggregate and orchestrate Distributed Energy Resources (DER) at scale through Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), supporting grid reliability and delivering value to customers across the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

This role is responsible for operating VPP platforms on a day-to-day basis, including dispatch, monitoring, and performance analysis. It also supports compliance activities such as CSIP-AUS certification and Non-Cooptimised Essential System Services (NCESS) and contributes subject matter expertise to the development of Synergy’s forecasting, planning, and dispatch capabilities. The DER Platform Operator works closely with product teams to ensure customer offerings are technically viable and aligned with contracted service obligations.

You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external technology partners to ensure safe, compliant, and innovative operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic energy environment and is passionate about contributing to Western Australia’s clean energy future.

Job responsibilities:

  • Operate Virtual Power Plant (VPP) platforms daily, including monitoring, dispatch, and performance analysis to ensure reliable DER operations.
  • Manage DER/VPP fleets during NCESS, ensuring compliance with availability, qualification, and performance obligations.
  • Conduct performance analysis and triage operational issues, recommending improvements to enhance platform efficiency.
  • Support CSIP-AUS certification processes by testing and validating technology integrations with external providers, often involving repetitive engagement and guidance to help providers meet certification requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to inform the design and deployment of forecasting, planning, and dispatch capabilities, and ensure customer products align with DER asset capabilities and service obligations.

What you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Information Technology, or Commerce, along with experience in the electricity industry in a technical, engineering or systems-focused role.
  • Strong working knowledge of DER technologies, including solar and battery systems, and associated monitoring, control, and communication platforms.
  • Experience operating VPP platforms and managing dispatch, performance analysis, and compliance activities such as CSIP-AUS certification and AEMO NCESS activations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal teams and external technology partners, including OEMs, aggregators, and installers.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
