Government Relations Principal

Role Description:

The Government Relations Principal is an exciting opportunity in our Policy & Social Value team based at our Perth Central Park office. Acting as deputy to the Manager Government Relations, this role plays a critical part in supporting Synergy's engagement with Government by coordinating the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and strategically aligned advice on complex issues.

Working closely with senior leaders across the business, the role leads the preparation of Ministerial correspondence, briefing materials, Parliamentary responses, and other Government-facing communications, ensuring advice is accurate, timely and reflects organisational priorities. The position requires a strong understanding of Government decision-making processes and the ability to navigate competing priorities, emerging issues, and stakeholder interests in a dynamic environment.

As a trusted advisor, the Government Relations Principal provides guidance and oversight on Government engagement activities, helping to manage risks, identify opportunities and maintain productive relationships across Government and key stakeholders. The role contributes to informed decision-making by translating complex information into clear, practical advice and ensuring Synergy's interactions with Government are coordinated, professional and effective.

Job responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver strategic government engagement and stakeholder management plans that support Synergy's corporate objectives.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with Ministers' offices, government agencies, industry stakeholders and strategic partners.
• Monitor political, policy and stakeholder developments, providing strategic insights and advice on emerging risks, opportunities and issues.
• Provide trusted advice and recommendations to senior leaders on government-related matters, stakeholder engagement and complex issues management.
• Support major government approvals, submissions and organisational initiatives while contributing to a positive and high-performing Government Relations team.

What you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in communications, politics, public relations, corporate affairs, social sciences or a related discipline, coupled with substantial experience working in government relations, public affairs, communications or a similar field.
• Extensive knowledge of government processes, structures and decision-making frameworks, with a strong understanding of the roles and responsibilities across different levels of government.
• Proven ability to build and maintain influential relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, fostering trust and enhancing organisational reputation.
• Strong political and policy acumen, including a sound understanding of the Australian political, legal and policy landscape, and the ability to assess their implications for business outcomes.
• Exceptional communication, analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to provide sound advice, navigate complex issues and influence outcomes in a dynamic stakeholder environment.
