Role Description:
The newly created Head of Assurance and Compliance is an exciting opportunity leading our Assurance and Compliance team based at our Perth Central Park office.
This pivotal leadership role is responsible for establishing and overseeing Synergy’s regulatory management and compliance frameworks, ensuring alignment with legislative obligations and internal policies and standards. Reporting to the Executive General Manager General Counsel and Governance, the role leads a team of up to eight and plays a key part in enabling the organisation to deliver on its strategic objectives through effective compliance and assurance procedures, regulatory insight, and independent assessment of controls.
With a strong focus on fostering a culture of strong governance and compliance, the Head of Assurance and Compliance will provide strategic direction, regulatory advice, and governance oversight across the business. The role will also lead engagement with regulators, including the Economic Regulation Authority, and collaborate closely with senior leaders, the Audit and Risk Committee, and internal stakeholders to uplift governance and compliance maturity and capability across Synergy.
Job responsibilities:
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of Synergy’s compliance and assurance frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations and internal standards.
- Provide strategic regulatory and compliance advice across the organisation, including preparing submissions and engaging with regulators to support business outcomes.
- Oversee the investigation and reporting of compliance incidents, ensuring timely resolution and escalation to senior leadership and the Board where required.
- Collaborate with Internal Audit, Legal, and Risk to identify and address compliance control gaps and ensure integration of assurance activities across the business.
- Drive capability uplift across the organisation by educating teams, leading communities of practice, and embedding a strong culture of governance and compliance.
What you will bring:
- Proven leadership experience in regulatory compliance, assurance, and governance within a complex and highly regulated environment.
- Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen, with the ability to influence internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies through clear, concise communication.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement integrated assurance frameworks and uplift organisational compliance capability.
- Tertiary qualifications in business, law, economics, finance or a related discipline, with post-graduate qualifications viewed favourably.
- Deep understanding of relevant Australian legislation and regulatory trends, ideally with experience in the energy sector.
