Role Description:

The Head of Health, Safety & Environment is an exciting opportunity in our People, Safety & Environment business unit based at our Perth Central Park office.

 

You are accountable for leading, managing and continuously improving health, safety and environmental systems, processes and practices to ensure Synergy provides both physical and psychosocial safety in the workplace while protecting and eliminating harm to the environment. You will champion sustainability and social value issues and promote Synergy’s health, safety and environment (HSE) strategies to the board, executive, key customers and external forums.

 

Reporting to the Executive General Manager People Safety and Environment, this role works as a collaborative member of the senior leadership team and demonstrates a commitment to safety, customer and community centricity, and creating a high-performance culture where people thrive and seamlessly adapt to change.

Job responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the HSE strategy aligned with organisational goals, regulatory requirements and industry best practise.
  • Provide executive level leadership and advise on HSE risks, performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish, implement and maintain HSE management systems, policies and procedures across all sites and projects and drive a pro active safety culture promoting accountability, leadership, engagement and workforce participation
  • Manage environmental performance including sustainability initiatives and regulatory reporting
  • Provide strategic direction and mentorship, ensuring alignment with strategy while empowering individuals to achieve their potential.
  • Ensure the health, safety and environment is at the forefront of decision making; conducting business in a manner that protects employees, the environment, stakeholders, customers, and communities and report to the ELT, Board and Board subcommittees (HRSC) and measure progress against HSE strategic plan(s) and enterprise HSE metrics.
  • Facilitate a strong and proactive HSE culture across the organisation.

What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in related Health, Safety and Environment field.
  • Deep experience (10 years minimum) in health, safety & environmental management of heavy industry business, preferably power station assets or similar.
  • Strong track record of environmental stewardship, compliance and practice development
  • Extensive stakeholder engagement and people leadership experience.
  • Preferred post graduate qualifications in specialised area or related commercial or environmental discipline (ie MBA or master’s in work, health and safety, environmental management)
