Role Description:
The Lead Generator Performance Engineer is an exciting opportunity based in our Perth Central Park office.
The Lead Generator Performance Engineer provides regulatory leadership to ensure Synergy’s Thermal Generation fleet remains compliant with the Electricity System and Market Rules, including Generator Performance Standards (GPS).
The role translates regulatory obligations into practical engineering requirements, identifying and supporting generator modifications, keeping the digital GPS asset up to date, and supporting capital projects necessary to manage compliance risk.
When triggered by capital investment, the position conducts detailed generator modelling and verification, using multiple data sources to assess unit performance and compliance gaps. Outcomes directly inform statutory submissions, compliance strategies, and prioritised CAPEX investment proposals.
Job responsibilities:
- Leads the Potential Relevant Generator Modification process supporting Thermal Generation capital investment program
- Keeping the GPS digital asset maintained and up to date in line with ESM and Synergy requirements
- Providing engineering support to the AO project engineering team and capital investment program
- Proficiency in using Power Factory Modelling (PFM) to validate generator performance models, assess compliance against registered parameters, and interpret technical model outputs in conjunction with operational data
- Contribute to the Asset Management Plans by collaborating with the Asset Management team to provide insights on the compliance components of the Asset Management Plan
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the electricity markets and power generation, particularly in compliance, regulatory, or similar roles
- Extensive exposure to operational data systems and analytical tools, specifically SCADA, high-speed recorder data (HSRD), power quality analysis, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory Modelling (PFM)
- Strong ability to communicate with influence, leading cross-functional engagements with stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to investigate complex system events, identify root causes, assess regulatory impacts, and clearly articulate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
