Role Description:
The Market Modelling Analyst is a newly created opportunity in our Wholesale Team based at our Central Park, Perth offices.
The Market Modelling Analyst supports Synergy’s wholesale strategy by providing analysis, modelling and pricing insights that inform trading, risk and profitability decisions.
The role works across Wholesale market analysis, portfolio modelling, pricing support and performance reporting, contributing to both short-term operational decision-making and longer term strategic planning.
The position contributes to the Wholesale Business Unit’s strategic objectives by evaluating the impact of market trends and future scenarios on operational performance, supporting evidence‑based decision‑making, and delivering performance reporting that enables senior leaders to effectively manage risk and value across the wholesale portfolio.
Job responsibilities:
- Support wholesale market modelling to evaluate trading and fuel impacts arising from wholesale electricity market trends, portfolio strategies and future scenarios, including analysis of assumptions, sensitivities and outcome drivers.
- Support wholesale pricing and risk management activities with a focus on medium‑ to long‑term profitability, including analysis of pricing inputs, portfolio exposures and risk mitigation strategies.
- Assist in the development, enhancement and ongoing maintenance of structured modelling frameworks and analytical tools to improve the quality, consistency and transparency of Wholesale Business Unit analysis.
- Analyse market, portfolio and operational data to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities, and provide timely insights to support decision‑making.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve reports and dashboards that provide clear, accurate and meaningful insights into operating and financial performance for senior management.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or related analytical discipline
- Sound understanding of the Western Australian energy market
- Intermediate SQL, Python, R or similar capability, supported by an understanding of data management processes
- Experience in financial modelling, pricing and risk analysis
- 2–4 years’ analytical experience in an energy market environment
