Role Description:
The OT Systems Lead is a newly created opportunity in our DER & OT Technologies team based at our Perth Central Park office. This role is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of engineers and specialists in the support, maintenance, and delivery of Operational Technology (OT) systems, including Ignition SCADA, AVEVA PI, and associated infrastructure.
With a strong focus on technical leadership, coordination, and subject matter expertise, the OT Systems Lead plays a critical role in enabling reliable and secure operations across Synergy’s power system landscape. The role works closely with Remote Operations Centres, Generation sites, and stakeholders across Future Energy, Thermal Generation, and Cybersecurity to ensure robust OT environments that support both Business-As-Usual (BAU) activities and strategic project initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced OT professional with deep technical knowledge, a passion for mentoring teams, and a strong understanding of change management and cybersecurity in regulated environments. The successful candidate will bring a collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering value through innovation, operational discipline, and trusted relationships.
Job responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary OT team across Business-As-Usual (BAU) operations and project delivery streams.
- Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of Ignition SCADA and AVEVA PI systems to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of OT projects, including upgrades and new installations, ensuring successful handover to BAU.
- Ensure compliance with OT cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC62443) and coordinate incident response and change management processes.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support secure and reliable power system operations.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, Engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years’ experience in operational technology delivery and change management, ideally within the power utilities or utilities sector.
- Proven ability to deliver stable OT systems and infrastructure, supported by clear processes and support structures.
- Strong understanding of SCADA systems, data historians, and OT architecture, with hands-on experience in platforms such as Ignition SCADA and AVEVA PI.
- Proficiency in change management methodologies (e.g. ITIL), with experience managing change in regulated industries such as energy, manufacturing, or utilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
