Role Description:
The Policy Principal is a newly created opportunity in our Policy & Social Value team based at our Perth Central Park office. Reporting to the Manager Policy, this role will play an important part in helping shape Synergy's response to an evolving energy policy, regulatory and market environment. Operating at the intersection of government, industry and business, the position provides strategic insight and trusted advice on issues that are critical to Synergy's long-term success.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most significant challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector as Western Australia continues its energy transition. The Policy Principal will work closely with senior leaders across the business and engage with a broad range of external stakeholders to help inform decision-making and support Synergy's strategic priorities.
As a senior member of the Policy team and deputy to the Manager Policy, the role offers the opportunity to influence matters of strategic importance while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting Synergy's reputation, strengthening stakeholder relationships and helping position the organisation for the future.
Job responsibilities:
- Lead the development of Synergy's energy policy priorities, positions and forward work program to support strategic business objectives.
- Analyse emerging policy, legislative, regulatory and market developments, providing strategic advice on associated risks and opportunities.
- Develop and coordinate policy submissions, consultation responses, executive briefings and other high-quality policy documentation.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with government agencies, regulators, market bodies and industry stakeholders to support Synergy's interests.
- Act as deputy to the Manager Policy, providing leadership, mentoring and guidance while contributing to a high-performing and collaborative team culture.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, law, political science, engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in energy policy, regulatory affairs, government, economics, strategy or a related field, with a strong understanding of policy and regulatory environments.
- Proven ability to analyse complex policy and regulatory issues and translate them into clear strategic and commercial advice.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing policy submissions, executive briefings, consultation responses and strategic recommendations.
- Sound understanding of the Australian energy sector, including the Western Australian energy market, energy transition and government decision-making processes, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
