Role Description:
The Senior Category Manager is an exciting opportunity in our Supply Chain team based at our Perth Central Park office. This role plays a pivotal part in supporting Synergy’s Future Energy portfolio through strategic, commercially focused procurement and category management. Operating as a trusted partner to the business, the role ensures procurement activities are aligned to organisational priorities and contribute to high‑impact outcomes across a diverse and evolving project landscape.
The Senior Category Manager leads the development and delivery of category strategies, sourcing plans and contract frameworks that optimise cost, manage supply risk and support project delivery. Acting as the key commercial adviser, the role provides expert insights on market conditions, supplier capability and procurement best practice while ensuring contracts are negotiated, implemented and managed to realise maximum value throughout their lifecycle.
This position is ideal for an experienced procurement professional who excels in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and enjoys influencing outcomes across technical and project‑based teams. With a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement, the Senior Category Manager contributes to strengthening Synergy’s procurement capability and ensuring we are well positioned to deliver on our Future Energy objectives.
Job responsibilities:
- Lead category management and strategic sourcing activities to deliver cost optimisation, minimise supply risk and support commercial outcomes across Future Energy projects.
- Develop, negotiate and manage contracts to ensure value is realised throughout the lifecycle, including supplier performance, milestone delivery and issue resolution.
- Act as the primary commercial adviser to project teams and stakeholders, providing insights on market conditions, procurement best practice and sourcing strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and external suppliers to support collaboration, demand forecasting, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct market research and supplier analysis to inform category strategies and support pipeline planning for current and future project requirements.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Procurement, Supply Chain or a related discipline, with extensive experience (7+ years) in category management and strategic sourcing.
- A proven track record of delivering high‑impact commercial outcomes, supported by strong strategic procurement and category management capability.
- Highly developed commercial acumen, including contract negotiation skills, analytical capability and a solid understanding of corporate law and procurement governance.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and communicate with impact across all levels.
- A proactive, accountable mindset with excellent organisational skills, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and experience using procurement systems such as SAP or Ariba.
