Role Description:

 

We’re currently recruiting for Senior Legal Counsel roles within our Legal team, based at our Perth Central Park office. These exciting opportunities offer flexibility, with options available for Permanent Full-Time, 12-month Max-Term Contracts, and Part-Time arrangements available.

 

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll play a critical part in delivering high-quality, timely, and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of matters including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, projects, and complex commercial contracts.

 

Reporting to the Managing Counsel & Deputy Company Secretary, you’ll partner closely with internal stakeholders to support strategic initiatives, manage legal risk, and ensure Synergy’s operations align with legal and regulatory obligations. You’ll also oversee external legal engagements, contribute to continuous improvement in legal service delivery, and support the development of team members through knowledge sharing.

Job responsibilities:

 

  • Provide strategic legal advice across a broad range of complex commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters, ensuring legal risks are effectively identified and managed.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, supporting the integration of legal advice into business documentation and compliance frameworks.
  • Manage external legal engagements, including preparing instructions and overseeing outsourced legal work to ensure alignment with budget and internal policies.
  • Support the Legal team through mentoring, task prioritisation, and leading internal legal training sessions to build capability and share knowledge.
  • Drive continuous improvement in legal service delivery by enhancing precedents, policies, procedures, and legal technology, while maintaining current expertise in relevant laws and regulations.

What you will bring:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law from a common law jurisdiction, along with admission to practice in Western Australia and a current practising certificate.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in private practice and/or in-house/secondment experience, with a strong track record of providing strategic legal advice in complex environments.
  • Deep expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing commercial agreements, with sound judgement and a pragmatic approach to legal risk.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with strong influencing skills, high professional standards, and the ability to work autonomously while contributing to team success.
