Role Description:

 

The Senior OT Systems Specialist is a newly created opportunity in our Operational Technology (OT) Systems team, based at our Perth Central Park location. This senior technical role is responsible for leading the design, development, and support of critical OT applications and real-time data systems, including AVEVA PI and Ignition SCADA.

 

The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, driving enhancements across OT systems, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders across engineering, cybersecurity, and trading. The role plays a key part in supporting the integration of new renewable energy projects and ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of Synergy’s operational data infrastructure.

 

This is a hands-on senior role offering the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute meaningfully to Western Australia’s energy transformation.

Job responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the discovery, design, and implementation of new features and enhancements in OT analysis and reporting applications, leveraging time series historians and cloud data analytics tools.
  • Develop and implement integrations for diverse real-time operational data sources using technologies such as AVEVA PI interfaces, Ignition SCADA, and NodeRed-based Web API flows.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to mid-level and emerging OT specialists and engineers, supporting their development and contributing to a high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security to implement OT-specific security requirements and ensure the reliability and performance of critical OT systems.
  • Provide expert input into the design and delivery of Technology projects, while compiling detailed technical documentation and standards.

What you will bring:

 

  • A degree in Computer Science, IT Systems, or a related discipline (preferred), along with strong analytical and communication skills and a customer-centric mindset.
  • Extensive experience supporting and enhancing critical business applications in a DevOps environment (5+ years), with at least 2 years integrating real-time data systems.
  • Strong technical expertise in OT systems, particularly with AVEVA PI and Ignition SCADA, ideally within the energy utilities sector.
  • Leadership and mentoring capability, with a proven ability to guide and develop mid-level and emerging OT specialists.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with experience working across engineering, cybersecurity, and trading teams, as well as with external vendors and partners.
