Role Description:
The Technology Research and Insights Specialist is a 12 month fixed term opportunity in our Technical and Business Services Unit based at our Central Park office in Perth.
The purpose of this role is to develop a research and advisory service that produces technology related research documents, summaries and position papers through leveraging industry research and advisory information services, industry experts, self-directed information gathering and knowledge gathering from technology functions within and outside of Synergy.
Job responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality technology research and actionable insights by analysing industry trends, emerging technologies, market developments, and external research, translating complex information into clear recommendations that inform Synergy’s technology strategy and investment decisions.
- Produce compelling, audience-appropriate research outputs, including market assessments, technology trend reports, position and options papers, executive briefings, newsletters, and presentations that support informed decision-making.
- Conduct technology opportunity, feasibility, and future-state assessments to inform strategic roadmaps, platform and vendor selection, business cases, procurement activities, and technology investment priorities.
- Build and manage relationships with research partners, vendors, and industry experts, including Gartner and Info-Tech, coordinating analyst engagements, benchmarking pricing, and maximising the value of Synergy’s research subscriptions and partnerships.
- Accountable for and to continuously improve the Technology Research and Insights service through effective research processes, templates, quality standards, knowledge repositories, and internal knowledge-sharing activities that strengthen research capability across TBS and Synergy.
What you will bring:
- Strong research and analytical capability, with demonstrated experience applying qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate evidence, identify trends and synthesise complex information into meaningful insights.
- Exceptional written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce concise, credible, and persuasive research reports, executive papers, and presentations for technical, commercial, and senior leadership audiences.
- Commercial and strategic thinking, including the ability to assess technology markets, compare vendors, interpret pricing and contract information, and connect research findings to business value, risk, and investment decisions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across technology teams, procurement, leadership, external analysts, vendors, and industry peers.
- Highly organised, curious and self-directed, with the initiative to manage competing research requests, coordinate external contributors, maintain high-quality standards and deliver practical outcomes within agreed timeframes.
