Role Description:
The Technical Lead – Power Systems is a newly created opportunity in our Perth CBD office.
In this role you will provide expert leadership, technical oversight, and regulatory guidance to ensure Synergy’s Thermal Generation fleet consistently achieves compliance with the Electricity System and Market Rules, including Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and Generator Monitoring Plans (GMP). Job responsibilities:
- Acts as the fleet’s technical authority, working with the engineering and operations teams to identify and resolve generation-performance risks in line with the Electricity System and Market (ESM) and Technical Rules.
- Methodically investigate power-system incidents, interpret SCADA and high speed data recordings (HSRD), analyse protection, and power quality data, and determine root causes of system disturbances.
- Proficiency in using Power Factory Modelling (PFM) to validate generator performance models, assess compliance against registered parameters, and interpret technical model outputs in conjunction with operational data.
- Create and lead a cross-function compliance workgroup to monitor and manage Thermal Generation compliance obligations, ensuring consistent and coordinated compliance efforts across all sites. The Lead is required to collaborate with other asset management team within Future Energy Business Unit.
- Develop and implement controls to manage regulatory compliance risks, ensuring all activities comply with regulatory requirements and WEM obligations. Regularly assess and adjust controls based on regulatory changes and proven capability to compile, structure, and produce comprehensive GPS compliance reports, ensuring all required elements (data tables, performance plots, model validation, compliance assessments) are thoroughly addressed, in alignment with regulatory methodologies.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical engineering or a closely related field or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in the electricity markets and power generation, particularly in compliance, regulatory, or similar roles.
- Extensive exposure to operational data systems and analytical tools, specifically SCADA, high-speed recorder data (HSRD), power quality analysis, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory Modelling (PFM).
- Strong ability to communicate with influence, leading cross-functional engagements with stakeholders and exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
